Located about 30 minutes east of Phoenix, the community of Chandler is a growing suburban community with a population of 238,041 according to the 2010 census.  Chandler offers its residents the safety and camaraderie of a small-town community, along with the culture and convenience of a major metropolitan area.  Locals enjoy hanging out in Chandler’s historic downtown, browsing unique shops, the Chandler Museum and other art galleries in a picturesque setting.  There are lots of scenic drives and hikes located near Chandler, as well as fascinating prehistoric structures nearby which attract thousands of visitors each year.

Chandler has been on a consistent growth pattern since after World War II, when returning service members looked to settle in the growing western United States.  Chandler saw an increase in population of more than 6,000 in the years between 1945 and 1960, and an increase of another 20,000 between 1961 and 1980, when master-planned communities were starting to flourish in the area.  By 2000, the population of Chandler was at 176,581, and the city has continued to have a consistent substantial growth rate.

Chandler has a reputation as being a family-oriented city with plenty of activities for adults and children.  The city has received numerous accolades in recent years.  The National Civic League named Chandler as an All American Community in 2010, and America’s Promise – the Alliance for Youth deemed Chandler one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People.  In 2008, Money Magazine included Chandler in its Top 100 Best Places to Live, and in 2007, AARP rated Chandler in the Top 5 Places to Live in the U.S.

Shopping and Dining
Living in Chandler means easy access to local shops and big name stores.  The Chandler Pavilions/Casa Paloma Shopping Center has an upscale feel and features a variety of opportunities for shopping, dining and even recreation.  Over on Chandler Boulevard, shoppers can browse the latest styles by established brand name designers at the Chandler Fashion Center. Downtown Chandler is also filled with many independent shops and stores where shoppers can usually pick up one-of-a-kind items.

Chandler offers foodies a wide variety of dishes and dining experiences ranging from casual, family-friendly establishments to exotic, global cuisine.  Watch the game on the big screen while sampling delicious local brews at SanTan Brewing Company.  Or, head over to Sushieye, and have the head chef whip up what some think are the best Nigiri, Sashimi and Sushi rolls in the state.

Parks and Recreation
Chandler is known for having a surprising variety of recreational activities, all just a short drive from home.  Golfers, for example, have the option of choosing from five different courses located within city limits.  The San Marcos Golf Resort is the oldest golf course in Arizona, and has hosted famous Hollywood icons such as Clark Gable, Cher and many others.

The Chandler Parks Department maintains dozens of small neighborhood and community parks, and Tumbleweed Park, a regional recreational center with 15 tennis courts, a fully equipped rec center, petting zoo and innovative “Playtopia", a 2.5 acre playground for children with activities that are centered around Chandler’s unique heritage.

Tumbleweed Park offers Chandler residents a great space for family fun and fitness.  Kids love the water slides, diving boards and “lazy rivers” found at Chandler’s six different aquatic centers.

Half amusement park, half history lesson, Rawhide Western Town and Steakhouse features staged old west tableaus like gunfights and showgirl routines, as well as cookouts, burro rides, rock climbing, stunt shows, specialty shops, fiddlers and much more.

In March, visitors “flock” to the one-and-only Ostrich Festival, a celebration of Chandler’s agricultural heritage with family friendly activities like ostrich races, live music, vendors and medieval jousting tournaments.  With about 330 days of sun each year, not only can you enjoy gorgeous sunny days year round, you won’t have to worry about the weather when planning your weekend trip.

Living
Chandler has dozens of public spaces, neighborhood schools, shopping districts, concert venues, and historic neighborhoods which together produce the perfect setting for creating home.

Several high tech manufacturers such as Microsoft, Intel and Motorola have regional locations in Chandler, providing jobs for many of the well-educated population. Other larger employers include Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, and the City of Chandler.  Those that do commute have an easy drive to Phoenix or Scottsdale.  The proximity of the neighboring city provides employment and educational opportunities, as well as nights out on the town at entertainment and professional sporting events (four professional sports teams call the Phoenix metro area "home"), and the ability to come home to the quiet bedroom community.

Schools, Health, Transportation
Most students living in Chandler attend Chandler Unified School District.  The district oversees fifteen elementary schools, five junior high schools, five high schools as well as college prep schools, traditional schools and community education programs.  After graduating from high school, students can choose from broad spectrum of secondary institutions located minutes from the Chandler community.  These include the Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Arizona State University in Tempe, and the Phoenix School of Law.  In 2010, Chandler University, an online college specializing in construction management and business, opened its doors in Chandler.

There is no shortage of medical professionals in Chandler.  Those needing immediate medical attention need only go to the Chandler Regional Medical Center, where not only emergency services, but medical offices are located.  Chandler is also home to Arizona Orthopedic Surgical Hospital, as well as FastMed Urgent Care of Chandler.

In the area of transportation, drivers enjoy easy access to Highways 202, 60 and 101, while Interstate 10 is only a few minutes away.  Valley Metro, which services all of the East Valley,  provides limited service in and out of Chandler, compared with nearby cities of comparable size. Those that would rather fly than drive can land their private plane at Chandler Municipal Airport.
